Acne Scar Treatments - What is Available in the Form of Removal Today?

If you suffer from acne scars, you are probably wondering what type of treatments are available to make those unsightly scars go away for good.  It's bad enough you had to deal with the acne being on your face, but now you are left with what is known as pockmarks and they will never go away.  Whatever you call them, acne scars or pockmarks, will not heal up on their own so you are forced to seek out some kind of acne scar treatment or live with them.

The current treatments available for acne scars are as follows:

Acid Peels- That sounds painful already.  Qualified technicians will use the same acids that are known to treat acne to try and remove scar tissue from your face.  We are taught to stay away from acid as a rule, so why would anyone want to apply it to their face?  The people who have had this done report a week's worth of work lost while they are healing and getting back to their normal looking skin as a result of the acid peel.

Dermabrasion- This type of acne scar treatment entails removing your top layer of skin.  Ouch!  You have to have a few days to be able to recover without going out into the public eye because of all the redness associated with this type of treatment.  It works, but it's fairly expensive and may cost you a week's worth of pay while you heal up.

Microdermabrasion- This is a lighter method of the above dermabrasion treatment.  The only difference is that it only removes a thin layer of your skin and not the whole top layer.  It still doesn't sound very appealing as a way to remove your acne scars.

Laser surgery- This type of acne scar removal uses advances in technology to burn off skin cells.  A laser, or a concentrated beam of light, is applied to the areas where you have a problem with acne scars.  Many treatments may be needed before you achieve your desired results.

Collagen Injections-  An injection of collagen can be placed under the acne scar or pock to raise it to the level of the rest of your skin.  This will make the scar less noticeable but it only last a while, as collagen will dissolve into the body after it starts to break down.  A repeat treatment will be necessary regularly, forever.

Autologous Cultured Fibroblasts
- This acne scar treatment involves another type of injection but this time it is cells that are grown from your own skin.  A dermatologist will take a circular punch out of your skin about 3mm in diameter and use it to grow more cells.  These cells will then be injected or augmented under the acne scar.  It takes three visits and three sets of injections to complete the treatment fully.
